WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Senior forward Alex Manhardt was named the NACC Player of the Week, as voted on by the league sports information directors, announced the conference office Tuesday.
Manhardt becomes the first Sabre to earn the conference weekly award since 2014 after registering his fourth double-double of the season in a win against Concordia Chicago. The West Bend, Wis. native shot 7-10 (.700) from the field in the win with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Manhardt also added two assists and a block in the victory that gave the Sabres an even conference ledger. WAUKESHA, Wisconsin (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University sophomore Josh Creed (Chicago, Illinois) turned in a career performance over the weekend and was rewarded by being named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced, today, Dec. 15.
After scoring just four points in the first half, Creed exploded for 28 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including 10-for-10 at the free throw line, in just 14 minutes of action in the second half. The Chicago native finished with a career-high 32 points in an 84-58 win over Concordia Chicago last Saturday, Dec. 13. On two separate occurrences, Creed scored 11 straight points for the Sabres in the second half, who won their sixth straight overall and improved to 5-0 in conference play. Creed is currently fourth in the league in scoring at 17.2 points per game, while ranking first in free throw percentage at 88.4 percent. He and the Sabres (6-2, 5-0 NACC) will be back in action this Wednesday, Dec. 17, with a NACC showdown against Aurora (7-3, 5-1 NACC). Binversie poured in team-highs with 18 points and seven rebounds in leading the Sabres to their first NACC Tournament championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Division III national tournament. The Valders native scored nine points in the second half, including a late free throw to make it a four-point game with just seven seconds remaining, proving to be all the Sabres needed to hold off the seventh-seeded Eagles. WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University junior guard Jeff Harris (Calumet Park, Ill.-H.L. Richards) was rewarded for his efforts in aiding the men's basketball team's upset win over Edgewood College last week, garnering Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Week honors, the league office announced today, Jan. 30.
Harris scored 26 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the free throw line in Marian's 70-69 win over first place Edgewood back on Jan. 25. It's the second such honor for Harris this season, having earned his first award of the year back on Dec. 19, 2011. The Calumet Park, Ill. native missed his first shot of the game before going on to drain his final 10 attempts. He scored 11 first half points to pace the Sabres to a one point halftime lead and then added 15 points in the second half, making each of them count in the one point win. Harris ranks sixth in the league in scoring at 16.3 points per game and has turned it up a notch of late. The junior has reached double-figures in each of his last five contests, leading the Sabres to a 4-1 record while averaging 18.3 points per game over the span. WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Marian University junior guard, Jeff Harris, claimed Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Week honors for his career-high, 32-point effort against Dubuque last Saturday, the league office announced today.
Harris shot a season-best 63.6 percent from the floor, going 14-for-22, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. He added seven rebounds and two steals, but host Dubuque was able to overcome Harris' efforts in picking up the non-conference win, 85-76. The Calumet Park, Ill. native ranks sixth in the league at 16.9 points per game this season on 40.8 percent shooting. Harris leads the team and ranks sixth in the NAC with 18 three-pointers made as well. |
